Semiramis Lebanese Cuisine

I have heard rave reviews about Semiramis, so I finally made it over there.  Peter and I had lunch there, and it was more than worth the trip.  It is literally right across the street from the Kedzie Brown Line Station, making it a very easy place to get to if you are near the Brown Line.

We started out with a fresh lemonade.  Everything at this restaurant is made fresh, and the lemonade was no exception.  The day we went, it was sweetened perfectly, with a hint of sweetness and a fresh sprig of mint.

Peter had the Chicken Chawarma sandwich and he said it was very good.

I was trying to decide which appetizers to get when our waiter suggested the Vegetarian Plate.  It came with hummus, baba ghannouj, tabbouleh, falafel and dolmas.  Normally I have never been a fan of baba ghannouj, until I tried the one here at Semiramis.
Everything on the plate was incredibly fresh and delicious.  I loved the food so much that I came back later in the week for a take-out, and again the week after.  Yesterday Carlos and I went there and he also enjoyed the food.  It was his first time trying Lebanese food, so it was fitting that he tried food that was truly delicious and not ‘fast food’ like some places seem to sell.
We also had their Arabic coffee with cardamom.  I happen to like the taste of cardamom, and with the Lebanese cookies, each was the perfect complement for each other.
Our server was nice enough to bring the pot so we could have a second cup, but just the one was plenty for both of us.
These are the Lebanese cookies.  Two of them are stuffed with figs, yum!

CTA Kedzie Brown Line Station and a little bit of Ravenswood Manor

Today I took a big break from “The Secret Project.”  Peter and I went to have lunch, and then we walked home.  The walk home was amazing, first of all because of the condition that both of us were in, and secondly because of the distance.  However, as we all know, the right company can make things that seem difficult to pass a little easier.  Well, that’s what I am saying now…. talk to me tomorrow!

We took the train to the Kedzie Brown Line Station, where I took photos of the amazing glass artwork.  I loved the way the artist used drawings of the old fashioned CTA train cars to add perspective.

After our lovely lunch, which I will talk about in the next post, we started a very long walk home.  Someone was having a bit of fun:
I always love pretty flowers!

Much of the area we walked through was Ravenswood Manor, which is known for large homes and a lovely and quiet, suburbanesque feel.  In person, this home looked far more stunning than it does in the photo.  The rounded front windows and balcony looked quite striking.  For whatever reason, the photo looks a bit meh.

Someone has a sense of humor…

The cast iron fence here had such beautiful detail that I had to share it:

Our next post will be about our visit to a wonderful find, thanks to Jennifer and Sae!

A few CTA stops on the Brown Line

On Sunday, Pedro and I went to Albany Park, via the Brown Line. Our first stop was the Kimball Stop. I’ve only been to the Lost and Found at Kimball, so this was the first time I had ever been on the outside of the station. We did a little walking around, and upon our return I had to take a photo of this. There are several of them outside the station. They aren’t really all that comfortable for sitting (we both tried them out). And yes, visually they are, uh, “different.”

We left the area via the Kedzie Station. The splashes of color on the left wall did a nice job of breaking up what could have looked very sterile.

We took a detour at Rockwell, where we found this cute little shop called The Little Green Shop. With the sun glaring on the windows, it was a bit challenging to get the photo, but you can see some of the cute children’s toys that they had.

We stopped off at Beans and Bagels for a coffee and a chai. It was a nice break and the first quiet place we had to chat. I took home a chocolate mousse cake, which was incredible. If I can remember and if they have it at the shop closer to where I live, I’ll pick one up for our next dinner.

The Rockwell Station had these glass art pieces. The photo does not capture the pieces very well at all. In person, you can see the light dancing through some of these pieces, many of which are photographs in glass and quite pretty.

As if to provide a perfect ending to our little get together, while we were waiting for the train, on the southbound side of the platform, across the alley was this mural which is an interesting mix of culture, history and contemporary life.
