Belgian Chocolatier Piron is a family run business on Main Street, in Evanston. Handmade chocolates using natural and high quality ingredients and exquisite care in the process result in some of the most incredible chocolate one could ever imagine. Each piece is to be savored, and the flavors burst through almost like little culinary works of art. I’m in love.
The Chicago Tribune wrote an informative piece for one for one of the original founders (Obit), which is a reminder that many people have rich and complex histories in their lives. He leaves a legacy and a family run business that produces the highest quality candy I’ve ever had. It isn’t overly sweet, and the balance of flavors is as perfect as you can ever imagine.
The Medill newspaper did a feature piece in November, 2009, so there is no need to repeat what was written, except to emphasize their lack of artificial ingredients. I am very sensitive to artificial colorings and additives and preservatives, so I avoid anything masquerading as food that has these in it. Finding this lovely little shop was quite a joy. The gentleman who waited on us was enthusiastic in letting us know of the quality of their ingredients.
Since I had weekend company scheduled, I purchased enough for our group, with a couple pieces to spare, just to test. I was in heaven. The texture, the flavors, what can I say? I am impressed. I had no negative reactions to the ingredients, unless you’d like to count a desire to eat though the dessert for group dinner.
I will definitely be back the next time I can get a ride there. And remember, folks, this is in Evanston. It’s in the same vicinity as Kuni Japanese Restaurant, but if you overstay after 2 hours, beware of those parking ticket people.
